When First International Cricket Match Played


The date goes back to 1844, when Canadian cricket team traveled to United States. It was the first international team to travel to another country. The match was named as "United States of America versus the British Empire's Canadian Province". There are some who dispute the validity of the claim that the game was an international but  it is generally acknowledged to have been an international. The match won by Canada by 23 Runs in front of a Crowd of Between 5,000 and 200,000.

The match took place between 25 - 27 September 1844 at the St George's Cricket Club, Bloomingdale Park in New York. The game was scheduled for two days but due to bad weather, it was extended to a third day. It is estimated that as much as $100,000 was bet on the match.
